Fr Frank writes:
Both parables in today’s Gospel remind us of the role that we are called to play in God’s plan. He takes care of the major part, but we too have an important role to play.
The farmer has to first of all scatter the seed, and only then will God be able to do the rest – that is, make the seed grow into a harvestable crop. Likewise, although the mustard seed itself is small it has to be first sown. Only after that can God cause it to grow into a large shrub, one in which even the birds can shelter.
As “a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step” we are given the task of taking a decisive one, the step of playing our part in bringing about God’s Kingdom.
It is a joy to welcome Katherine Herbert (Saturday at Frinton) and Tanja Hammond (Sunday at Dovercourt) into the Church. They will both be Received/Confirmed this weekend. Our prayers are with you, Katherine and Tanja, as you take this significant step in your spiritual pilgrimage.

As I write this we still do not know when we will come out of lockdown. An announcement will be made the Government on 14th June. If any changes affecting church practices arise from this, I will communicate them as soon as possible. Meanwhile, nothing changes: sanitiser, masks, distancing, and fresh air are still in place.
Today we celebrate the Feast of Corpus Christi (The Body and Blood of Christ). We rejoice always, but especially so on this day, that Christ comes to us in the Blessed Sacrament of Holy Communion.
May the Christ who loves us and feeds us bless you today and always.

My Dear Friends,
On Thursday this week we celebrate the Feast of the Ascension of the Lord. After the Resurrection, St Luke tells us, the risen Christ appeared to his disciples for 40 days before Ascending to the Eternal Father.
This Feast takes place within the Easter Season (which lasts until Pentecost) but is a Holy Day in its own right.
The two parishes each have two Masses, as much as is possible, to enable most if not everyone to be present. There is a Vigil Mass on Wednesday at Frinton beginning at 7.30pm. On Thursday, the Mass at Frinton is at 9.15am, and the two Masses at Dovercourt on that day are at 11.30am and 7.30pm.

My Dear Friends,
For many outside the Church, Easter has been and gone. But it is not so for us. We are still in that Holy Season and the first reading today, as is the case throughout Eastertide, is taken from the Acts of the Apostles. This reading is about the Apostle Paul. Remembering how he used to persecute Christians it is not surprising that the disciples in Jerusalem mistrusted him. But we know that his life had been transformed as a result of encountering Christ on the road to Damascus.
There is a nice little sentence at the end of the reading: because of their faithfulness “the churches throughout Judea, Galilee and Samaria were now left in peace, building themselves up, living in the fear of the Lord, and filled with the consolation of the Holy Spirit”.
How I pray that we could be ‘building ourselves up’. Sadly the situation can so often seem bleak as we read of falling Mass attendance and vocations to the priesthood and religious life.
But, let us not despair, but rather let us pray that, like Paul on the road to Damascus and like the gathered Apostles in Jerusalem, our lives and the lives of those around us may be transformed, and that the Church and the world may be conformed through His grace into a world which more and more closely resembles its calling to become the Kingdom of God.
May Our Risen, Ascended and Glorified Lord bless you now and always.

Once again we are privileged to celebrate Our Lord’s Resurrection: The Queen of Feasts: The glorious pinnacle and origin of our Faith. As Bishop Alan has recently reminded the Clergy, “Easter is not simply one feast among others, but the ‘Feast of Feasts’, the ‘Solemnity of Solemnities’….St Athanasius calls Easter ‘The Great Sunday’ and the Eastern Catholic Churches call Holy Week ‘The Great Week’. All this remains true despite the limitations and anxieties of present parish life.”
And it is true that whilst we may not be able to sing in church, we can all sing in our hearts: Christ is Risen, Alleluia!
Please note that from 12th to 16th April there will be no Masses in either church.
Finally, thank you for all your cards, gifts, and kind messages, and for the Easter Offering – all of this makes a big difference to us, and not just financially! I shall offer Masses of Thanksgiving at the earliest opportunity – this is the best gift I can give in return for your generosity of spirit.
